What should you use to treat acne?

My sister, who's 12 years old now, has acne all over her forehead. I was wondering if it was normal for someone to get acne at the age of 11. I was also wondering if there was something to treat it too. Something that's not too strong. I feel so sorry for her, because someone in school keeps making fun of her and calling her names. What should you use to treat acne?

my husband absolutely loves proactive. He says it has always worked for him. As for if it's normal for her to get acne at this age, that all depends on her maturity level. If she's reached puberty, started her period, etc then it's very normal. I don't like how kids take it upon themselves to make fun of others either. I'll say a little prayer for your sister this evening. Have a great night, you sound like a wonderful sister!

Proactive isn't really all that expensive anymore. You can easily get it for $19.95 and it contains plenty. She is young and could continue to have a problem with it and need it throughout her teen years.
Thats a normal time with the hormones changing. A couple of things to work on, that may seem simple, but 12 year olds might not think about, are keeping your hair washed, dirty bangs can cause oil. Also just washing your face, morning and night. Drugstore brands like Biore, Neutrogena, Cetaphil, and Purpose, etc, make good face cleaners. Also a diet with lots of fruits and veggies can make a difference.

If she is allowed to wear makeup, there are also cover sticks that have things like salycic acid in them, that might be an option. Neutrogena again, I normally wouldnt push make-up, but for something like this, to get past the teasing, it might be an option. My niece has the same issues, and recommended this too. And wouldnt go spending a lot on Pro-active, see where you can go with the cheap ones first, Burts Bees also has good natural product options. (also drugstores, target, etc)
Acne is different for everyone, especially around that age when they start to go through puberty. Try anything with benzoyl peroxide. Start off with a cream or face wash that has 2% benzoyl peroxide. Use it once a day for a week then increase it to twice a day. If that doesn't work try increasing the percent such as 5% or 10%. This can be found in any grocery store or Target. I use the Clean and Clear acne solutions kit and it works great. You could also use saliclic acid or alpha hydroxy treatments but those are usually for really bad acne. Just make sure you sister washes her face morning and night, that should help it subside. If your really worried about it you can go to the doctor and they can treat it or recommend a dermatologist.

It's perfectly normal to have acne at age 11 i have it and im 12, talk to her doctor, my doctor gave me this stuff it was kinda expensive but my insurance paid for most of it, and it was wonderful! my acne is like gone. the only downside was that it made my skin a little dry so try using clean and clear mosturizer in the middle of the day. the stuff my doctor gave me is called benza clen. tell your sister good luck:):)
I've heard proactiv works really well. I don't think it'd be too strong. I've heard very good things about it.
